This poem has its genesis in the Boris Kitty story, God Made Today. In the story, Boris teaches his friends that they should enjoy each and every day because it is a gift from God.

The joy of the Lord is our strength. When we wake up and praise the Lord early in the morning, we are prepared to overcome all the power of the enemy. Praise is good and should be practiced daily. (Nehemiah 8:10, Psalm 28:7 and Psalm 84:5)

There were many praise verses in the Bible that have inspired this poem, but here are two that had the most impact:

Satisfy us each morning with your unfailing love, so we may sing for joy to the end of our lives. — Psalm 90:14 NLT

This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it. — Psalm 118:24 NLT

God Made Today

By Harrison Woodard

Jump out of bed and welcome the day

This is the day that the Lord has made

Come on everyone shout for joy and say,

God made today.

Knock on the door, its fear dropping by

Worry on the phone, just to say ‘hi’

With God by your side, send them all away,

God made today.

Later that night, I’m tucked in my bed

Big fluffy pillow, under my head

Can’t go to sleep before I bow and pray,

God made today.

Let every living thing praise our King, and sing,

God made today.
