Fear is a tool of Satan. It robs believers of their faith in God. Boris learns a valuable lesson about fear when he faces a scary thunderstorm. With God’s help, he is always victorious. A Christian children’s story for kids of all ages.

And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him. There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The man who fears is not made perfect in love.
— 1 John 4:16 & 18 NIV

It was a beautiful spring afternoon. Boris stretched out on the sidewalk to enjoy the warm sunshine and a nap. He dreamed of birds and squirrels, as all cats do.

After a little while, he woke up. The sky had turned dark and a little scary.

“What happened to the sun?” asked Boris. “It can’t be nighttime yet.”

The wind started blowing and the trees began to sway.

And Boris said, “God made the wind. I am not afraid.”

Off in the distance, Boris saw a flash of lightning. And then he heard the crash of thunder.

Boris was startled by the noise. He jumped to his feet.

“God made the thunder to chase the lightning,” said Boris. “I am not afraid.”

Rain started falling. First a few sprinkles, and then sheets of water came splashing down. Boris ran as fast as he could around the house and through his pet door. The wind blew, lightning flashed, and the thunder roared.

And Boris said, “God made the rain to feed the plants. I am not afraid.”

Hail started falling. It sounded like small stones pounding on the roof. The wind blew, lightning flashed, thunder roared, and the rain came splashing down.

And Boris said, “Hail is just frozen rain and God made the rain. I am not afraid.”

The full fury of the storm raged outside. The wind blew, lightning flashed, thunder roared, the rain and hail came crashing down.

And Boris said…

Boris didn’t say anything. He ran into the utility room and hid behind the washing machine.

“Dear God, please forgive me. I am scared,” prayed Boris as he crouched down in the dark.

“What are you doing?” asked God.

“I am hiding from the storm,” said Boris.

“Why would you do that?” asked God. “Don’t you know how much I love you?”

“Of course I do,” said Boris.

“If you know that I love you, there is no reason to be scared,” said God.

Boris carefully crept around the washing machine and crouched down at the entrance of the utility room just in time to be startled by a very loud clap of thunder.

“It’s so loud and frightening,” said Boris.

“Boris, my love for you is bigger than any thunderstorm,” said God. “It’s bigger than anything in the universe.”

“I shouldn’t be scared, should I?” asked Boris as he crept into the living room and peaked out the window.

“I will never leave you and will never stop loving you,” said God. “You should never be scared.”

Boris sat down near the window and watched the storm.

Outside, the wind blew, lightning flashed, thunder roared, the rain and hail came crashing down.

And Boris said, “God loves me. I am never afraid!”
