An Animal Parable Bible Lesson – Elijah Fed By Ravens

Ask the animals and they will teach you — Job 12:7 NLT

He makes springs pour water into the ravines; it flows between the mountains. They give water to all the beasts of the field; the wild donkeys quench their thirst. The birds of the air nest by the waters; they sing among the branches. — Psalm 104:10-12 NIV

Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds. — Luke 12:24 NIV

Introduction

This Bible devotion is intended to be used with the children’s story, Rockwell’s Dream. Jesus often taught people using parables. In the same way, these stories and devotions are written to teach Bible truths to kids, teens, and people of all ages.

Read the concepts below and look up the Bible verses associated with each one. Use the faith building exercise to build your faith. Based on the story of the ravens that fed Elijah, this parable is about how a raven named Rockwell trusted God to save his flock. You can read the real story in your Bible at 1 Kings 17:4-7.

Rockwell’s Dream – Key Concepts
A Parable About Trusting God For Our Needs

1. The ravens were shocked that humans had stopped worshipping God. But that happens throughout history. Even today, there are many people who do not even believe that there is a God! But God is real! God is with you today and every day. Don’t let television, sports, music or other activities keep you away from a personal relationship with Jesus. Make God your number one priority. You will be happy you did.

Exodus 20:1-6Deuteronomy 4:296:5Hosea 10:12Luke 11:10Hebrews 13:8

2. Rockwell was faced with a difficult choice. He could fly north with his friends or stay with his grandparents and face an uncertain future. Instead of worrying about the problem, he turned to God for an answer. When you trust God with your needs and concerns, He will show you how to overcome any difficult situation.

Proverbs 3:5-6Matthew 6:25-34Philippians 4:19

3. Dreams are just one way God can speak to you. He can also speak through His Word in the Bible. Are you praying and reading your Bible daily? God wants to have a personal relationship with you. But you must make an effort to communicate, listen and obey Him.

John 14:231 Corinthians 1:9James 4:81 John 1:3Revelation 3:20

4. Just like some of the ravens doubted Rockwell, standing up for God and what you believe can sometimes cost you friends. But if you know that you are doing God’s will, you can be confident you are always doing the right thing.

Joshua 1:8-91 Kings 2:32 Kings 18:5-7Psalm 1:1-3

5. During Rockwell’s journey, other animals continued to tell him he was making a mistake. When you know that you are following God’s instructions, you can be confident in the face of criticism of others. Remember, even if you gathered the greatest human minds in all of history, it would still be foolishness compared to God’s mighty wisdom.

Proverbs 28:26Isaiah 55:91 Corinthians 1:25303:19-20

6. Every time Rockwell was challenged about his journey, he always said he trusted God’s Word. That was music to God’s ears. God’s Word is truth. He cannot lie. Whatever God says, is always the final answer.

Numbers 23:19Proverbs 30:5Isaiah 40:8Matthew 7:24

7. With each stop, the situation kept looking worse for the little flock of ravens. No matter how bad things appear, you must trust that God is in control and will supply all your needs and take care of you. Have you made God your source for everything you need?

Exodus 14:132 Chronicles 20:20John 6:351 Corinthians 2:9

8. The little flock had traveled as far as they could go. They stopped for the night and the situation looked very bleak. But what they couldn’t see was the mighty miracle that was happening just beneath them. In the morning, God had opened a spring in the middle of the wilderness and provided the food for both the ravens and Elijah. God is so wonderful to those that place their full trust in Jesus.

1 Chronicles 29:11-13Psalm 104:10-12Isaiah 58:11Luke 12:24

9. The ravens gave part of their miracle food to Elijah. In return, God made sure that all their needs were met and they prospered in their new home. When you give your time and gifts to God, you will never lack any good thing. Start looking for ways you can give.

Malachi 3:10Luke 6:38
